"Hither You lot Come Once again" is a vocal written by Barry Isle of man and Cynthia Weil, and recorded by American entertainer Dolly Parton. It was released as a single in September 1977 as the championship rail from Parton's anthology of the same name, topped the U.S. country singles nautical chart for five weeks, and won the 1978 Grammy award for Best Female Land Vocal Performance; it too reached number 3 on the U.Southward. Billboard Hot 100, representing Parton'south beginning significant popular crossover hit.
Composition and recording [edit]
The vocal was composed by Isle of mann and Weil, and information technology was a rare case of a Parton hit that she did not write herself. The songwriting duo originally equanimous "Here You Come Again" in 1975 equally a potential comeback hit for Brenda Lee, but when Lee decided not to record it, the vocal made its way to Parton, who was looking for something to broaden her appeal. Her producer, Gary Klein, who had heard the song on B.J. Thomas'southward recently released self-titled anthology,[1] reported that Parton had begged him to add a steel guitar to avoid sounding as well pop, and he chosen in Al Perkins to fill that role. "She wanted people to be able to hear the steel guitar, so if someone said it isn't state, she could say it and prove it," Klein told journalist Tom Roland. "She was then relieved. It was similar her life sentence was reprieved."[2]
The vocal modulates keys four times. The commencement two verses are fix in G ♭ major, followed by A major for the first bridge, G major for the third poesy, B ♭ major for the second bridge, and finally A ♭ major for the final poetry and outro. The song moves at a swinging tempo of 106 beats per infinitesimal in common time, with Parton's vocals ranging from K ♭ three to Dv.[3] [4]

"Here You Come Over again" was the centerpiece of Parton'south popular crossover in the belatedly 1970s. The single spent 5 weeks at the summit of the U.South Billboard country charts[1] and reached number iii on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It earned Parton the award for "All-time Female Country Vocal Functioning" at the Grammy Awards.[5] The vocal has sold 271,000 digital copies in the United States equally of February 2022 since becoming available for digital download.[half dozen]

- B.J. Thomas recorded the song for his self-titled 1977 album. This version was released before Parton's.[i]
- Randy Bishop recorded the vocal in 1976, released as a single on A&M Records.[ commendation needed ]
- Patti Labelle recorded the song for her 1981 "The Spirit'due south In It" album.
- Kikki Danielsson covered the song on her 1981 album Merely Like a Woman, with lyrics written past herself in Swedish as Här är jag igen (translated: "Hither I am again").[20] Information technology remains 1 of the few times the singer Kikki Danielsson was self-involved in songwriting.
- In 2014, this song was covered by Katy Perry and Kacey Musgraves on a June thirteen, 2022 episode of CMT Crossroads. They also performed information technology on 2022 MusiCares Person of the Year result honoring Dolly Parton on February 8, 2022 and during the tribute performance for Parton on the 61st Annual Grammy Awards two days after.
